When I first started making this drum loop, I was more challenged then I thought I would be. I really wasnt going for any particular sound. Just something that wouldnt get boring and you could listen to throughout the course of a song. I started with a simple kick drum every four steps. I then started to fool around with different cymbals, claps, and other drums to add in with the kick drum. I decided to go with one simple clap on the third step. I was aginst more claps because i didnt want my loop to sound like just a buch of claps. I also decided to go with a high hat on the first step so that the first beat would have a little more power to it. Finally I added a crash symb at every four beats and I loved the sound I got. After making a contrasting pattern, I thought I was done. I was wrong. When I listened to my contrasting pattern, it contrasted a little too much making the loop sound very choppy. My contrasting pattern consists of a snare drum every step and once again the simple kick drum every four steps. In my opinion this gives it a little pop to the beat and makes it better. After a little bit longer of messing around with various cymbals, claps, and other sounds, I ended up adding just one simple clap on the third step and a crash symbal on the first one. This made it so you could hear some of the first pattern within the second one. I finally had a good contrasting pattern. Now i was done, and ready to post it on my blog.

Great Job! It seems that you are getting the hang of this. Your loop sounds great. I like it a lot. Except for the middle of the loop and the end. Between that it seems like you could of added a little bit more. Also the intro was a little bit longer than normal. I don't think you told us about what kind of sound you were going for. overall Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI really get the contrast between the two patterns. The snare vs. the claps is obvious. Your writing is simple, but effective. Perhaps creating a new drum fill instead of using the first one twice would have been refreshing to the listener.
