The project number 5 was based on us using the vocodex which is a system in which you take a sound and change it to sound like something else. Once we picked out sounds from freesounds, we put them in the vodex and made them sound like whatever we wanted them too. My sound is of a girl singing a oo la la sound. After it was put through the vocodex, it sounds like a soothing high pitched voice. I started with the sound playing by itself and then adding a simple drum beat. The drum beat has 5 kick drum steps with a high hat on the 3rd 7th, 11th, and 13 steps. This created an upbeat drum beat to offset the slow vocoded sound. Then after the drums and voice play through twice, i added a different drum beat that is simply 9 kick drums that accidently went through the vocodex as well and turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The vocodex put a cool twist on the drums that you can really hear. After that, i started over with the original beat. However, i this time added a sound called onion string. It is really cool because it adds a little flavor to the beat. I also added some notes from the slayer. At first I only had one plain beat. But then i added another one that contrasted with it to sound really cool. After the notes play through twice, i decided to switch the beat up, so i chopped those same notes into a more "choppy" beat and I thought it sounded really nice. Once those notes play..the onion string comes in again by itself and kinda gets you ready for what comes next. After the onion string comes my original beat with the same notes as before. Then another onion string note plays and finnally, the ending note which is a lower version of the notes playing before. My project ends with the playing of an onion string and a backward cymbol. i really like it, and i hope you do too! ENJOY!!

The vocals are very cool. Nice use of the vocoder. The drum loop is nicely mixed in I think, not too present, but still actually there. I like the use of the backwards cymbal to end aswell. The intro runs into the main groove very easily. I also like the "onion string" (whatever that is, sounds like a violin to me). I just like the sound and it helps with the transiitons. I did the same thing with putting drums through the vocoder. I either through out the vocoder or never finished the project though so i never used the cool effect. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Gabby.
ReplyDeleteI think you really highlighted the use of the vocoded drums bu surrounding the groove with sounds that don't overwhelm.
The vocoded vocal could have been more melodic (changing pitch), but what you have here works too.
